My name is Joe Henley and my wife is Rosita. I work full time as a Sales Manager and she works full time as an Occupational Therapist. We are both 63 years old and love to travel. There is so much to see in this world and not enough time. I’ve decided that to see all the places in the world that I want to see, would take several lifetimes.
We live in Louisiana and have two boys, who are grown now. The oldest one has a daughter and a son. Grandkids are great! Watching them grow up and sharing in their lives is an adventure of another kind that we love!
Our passion for travel is getting stronger and stronger. Until lately I did not have a desire to document our trips except to take pictures that we would look at from time to time. I very rarely would post any pictures on Facebook. Rosita would post a few.
Back in the fall of 2016 we started planning a trip to Europe. As we started planning we would have conversations with friends, relatives and coworkers about the trip. Invariably the question would be asked, “Who is booking the trip for you?” The answer would be “We are” and mostly by me. I love to do the internet searches to find places to stay and what to do. Most people’s reactions were that they would never try to go to Europe without help. Well, we had already done it once. In 2015 we went to Italy for 2 weeks and we planned everything ourselves, went on the trip and had no travel issues at all.
One night Rosita said, “Joe, why don’t you document the whole process from start to finish”. My reaction was that she was crazy, no way could I do something like that and I didn’t want to. Besides, I can’t write. I hate writing. My worst subject in school was english literature. Make me write a poem and I will throw up. But, the more I thought about it, the idea was tugging at me. Maybe I can write something. You will probably agree with my earlier statement that I can’t write, but, what the hell, I’m going for it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
So I started. I went and documented everything I had done up to that time. Then as we went through the process I would stop and document the process. And I started to enjoy the writing. I am going to keep doing it and hopefully I will improve some, at least to where you can tolerate reading it.
My goal here is to keep up with documenting my travel planning, and share it on this site. I will have a comment section, so hopefully you will give me criticism, good or bad. I have been in sales for 37 years so I have grown a thick skin. Let me have it. And please share some of your travel experiences here to help us learn. I would like to have this site relate some of my experiences from travels that maybe you will find interesting. And I want to learn from you. If you are doing something similar, send me a link and if it is appropriate I will post your link.
